Olympus Personal Training & Weight Management

"A Healthy Way To Eat Unhealthy"
My name is Stavros Mastrogiannis and I have been involved in the weight loss and fitness industry for over 19 years.
Besides being the owner of Olympus Personal Training & Weight Management, I am also the author of 3 books, including my latest one ,”The 8 Eating Rules”, which was published June 2011.
I have put together an interesting experiment to see how unhealthy food will affect someone’s health and weight, if eaten a healthy way.
Starting Monday, October 10th, 2011, for 8 weeks, Monday thru Friday, I will be eating at fast food restaurants only. Mostly, McDonald's and Burger King. I will be eating their burgers and French fries, not their salads, and I will not be counting calories. But I will follow three simple rules. I will eat only if I am hungry, I will eat slowly and mindfully and I will stop eating when I have satisfied my hunger. Because I do believe fruits and vegetables are essential to good health, I will be having 2 servings of fruits & vegetables per day. On the weekend I will continue my current eating habits which includes cookies, ice cream, soda and other not so healthy snacks.
I will not just be looking how my weight is affected, but also my cholesterol, (I just had a lipid profile done), my blood pressure, if my energy during the day changed or my concentration. I will also be looking at my workouts, if I feel any different or if my strength changed.
Why I am doing this to my body?
As you may already know, we are losing the weight loss battle so far. The question is Why?
There are many reasons why we are failing. One of the problems I have found is that the diet industry has been focused too much on what foods people eat or don’t eat . You have the high protein diets, the vegetarian diets, the raw diets and everything in-between diets. They love labeling foods as fattening or non-fattening. Nobody is talking about why we are eating in the first place. How fast are we eating and when do we stop eating? I believe that, why you eat, how fast you eat and when do you stop eating is as important as the foods you eat. Let me explain why I think that.
In my 19 years in the weight loss field, I have identify 8 eating habits that I think are critical to weight loss and health. I have developed a unique system that helps my clients develop these 8 eating habits. My book “The 8 Eating Rules” is based on this system. The way I help my clients develop those 8 eating habits is, one rule at a time. What I have found is that every client that incorporated the first 3 eating rules into their lives, lost weight. The few clients that happen to have done their blood work before and after, saw major improvements in their blood work, as well. The surprising part is, the first 3 eating rules have nothing to do with the foods you eat. Although my clients were still eating the same bad foods that they were eating before, eating them only when they were hungry(rule 1), eating slowly and mindfully(rule 2) and stopping eating when they had satisfied their hunger(rule 3) they lost weight and improved their blood work. Of course, I still believe the food you eat does play a role in your overall health, but so does the reasons for eating, the speed that you eat at and when do you stop eating.
I became very curious so I decided to put my body to the test and see if my first 3 eating rules can really be that important to health and weight and this is why I am doing this experiment.
I have been doing this experiment for the past 4 weeks and encourage you to follow my progress on Facebook, where I post daily about my health and energy.
My Weight went from 169 to 166
My Cholesterol went from 168 to 158
My Triglycerides went from 57 to 50
Basically all my numbers came back great.
Conclusion:
If you eat for the right reasons and the right way, your body can be more forgiving with the foods that you eat. Of course the best thing to do is to eat the right way and eat healthy food. The point of this experiment was to show you how important these 3 eat habit are.
