"The Permanent Weight Loss Specialists"
“I will start my diet on Monday.” “I already blew it for today, I will start tomorrow.” “I have too many parties this week, I will start my diet next week.” “I feel a little sick. I will wait until I feel better to start my exercise program.” “I am not in the right frame of mind, I will start my exercise/diet program, next week when I am in a better frame of mind.” “I have a lot of things of my mind.” “I am too busy today; I will exercise tomorrow when I have more time.”
In my 16 years in the weight loss industry, I have heard hundreds of reasons for why people can’t start eating better today or why they can’t start an exercise program today and why tomorrow or Monday will be a better time to start. The problem with that type of thinking is the fact that you have no control of tomorrow or Monday, the only time you have any control over is NOW!
Part of the reason most people can't lose weight (and keep it off) is because most people focus on the past or on the future and they forget that "now" is the only time they can control. I have seen so many people feeling guilty about what they ate yesterday or that they skipped their workout and they say to themselves, "What is the point? I might as well enjoy the rest of the week and start fresh on Monday." Other people use the future as an excuse to eat poorly now. I have heard so many people say, "I will eat this cake now, but starting tomorrow I will be extra good.” The problem with tomorrow is that it never comes, because when tomorrow comes, it will not be tomorrow – it will be today. And most likely, you will still be telling yourself the same thing..
The only time you control is now, so you should not focus on what you did yesterday and what you are going to do tomorrow. You should focus on what you can do right now to move yourself closer to your goal. Feeling guilty about what you did yesterday or hopeful about what you are going to do tomorrow will not help you move closer to your fitness goal today.
From now on keep asking yourself this question: "What can I do right now to get me closer to my fitness goal?" The answer could be to have one less doughnut, or to skip dessert, or to get on the treadmill for the 5 minutes you have available, etc. You get the idea.
What you do now will determine how you are going to look and feel tomorrow.
